“Design is not just creative thinking. Design is art.”

     One day, I had an opportunity to see Ruedi Baur’s works form a TV documentary, and the opportunity to think me about design.

     He is a designer who is from France. His works are almost remarkable design products, but they have something different meaning. When he designs his products, he focuses on identity, orientation, information. Visual identity is the word that we can see easily in the fine art filed. However, he tries to make products which are combination visual identity, cultural and social things. I could see some different things  from other designers when saw his products. He have different point of view, and he solves his design differently.  That is interesting, because he shows something more than design. That’s not only design. He makes people to be familiar with design throughout his products. Moreover, his products make me to think. His way to think about design and make design teaches something more than design. It is also art. I think maybe we can see the surpassing meaning about design throughout his works. He put lots of meaning into his works. That’s why his design is art.

     The public places overflow huge commercial advertisements and those shout that buy our products. Only for seeking immediate gain, companies apply pressure to people with huge money and marketing skills. In addition, the ways to advertise becomes more shocking in these days. Maybe, we are targets as well as objects of sacrifice to the media attack.

     The person, who started the bubble project, is a Korean, and his name is Ji Lee. News week chose the bubble project as best design project. That is the resistance against commercial public relations. He tries to change public space, where is filled commercial products or companies, to the place where people can communicate each other.

     In my opinion, we can use this project in many fields and we can get lots of creative ideas from the bubble project. Actually, we have lots of problems in this world. However, sometimes we cannot touch the problems because it can be too serious things or too political issues. Ok. We cannot talk the problems easily, but we should try to know and solve the problems. People have to try to show the problems to people, and communicate to solve and know the problems. The Bubble project, we can use that.

     We cannot be aims the flowing advertisements anymore, because we have lots of things to know. We have to communicate with people. The funny, fresh way gives us lots of message. Sometimes, it is just for fun, but it can be containing truth that we have to know, but we have not known. Therefore, the bubble project can be one of the ways we can communicate with people and know the truths. The most important thing is that we can imagine, think, know and enjoy throughout the bubble project.

     These days, many people think that designers are just people who sell art, but designers help companies and people to show about them. Designers are not  just conman. Design can shift values of our life and make happiness. In addition, they show connection between people, and between times. They help people and show now. For example, design, identities, people…. These things are most important things to graphic designers.  They earn money from consumers who buy designers’ art. Graphic designers sell their graphic, and fashion designers sell their fashion to people. Their names, styles, colors, shapes are designers’ identity, and people and companies use them. In addition, people want to show their identities to others. Designers are people who assist people. They are not seller and liars. Designers demand money. Why?   People need designers, because the products from designer help people to express them. Designers also help people get many things because people show them to others throughout design.        

     Companies also expose their brand identities throughout design. Logos are the main thing to show their identities.  Ok. Lots of designs are simple. However, the obvious thing is that the simple intense design can help company.  The designs make images of company and their brand values.

     Designers help people to show them to others. Designers are not just conman. They are assistants of people, and they are tellers for present, future and past though design. They show and tell about people. Design has power.

“Mirror on America”

     To see is nothing; to imagine is everything.  Images are all around us, and we have to see them every moment. We can get, learn and imagine many things form them. Images, it’s the way to understand many things, and to know about many things. We always see around us. The moments are important and every moment gives us huge impact. The images make us to think and act. Therefore, Advertisement, photographs, and icons, these are also essential elements in these days. We see and feel every time.  We also imagine from them and think.  Sometimes, those inspire us and we behave after the feeling that we feel when we see images. “Mirror on America” let us know how to understand images. Lots of image components can change the impact that people can get from the images. In addition, designers and artists can use the elements which can make images differently. Designers and artists have to know the efficient way to catch attention of people. To show is nothing, they have to try to move souls of people.

Jeanette Winterson

     Art makes people to think about many things and gives lots of meaning.  These days, many people think that the money makes art and help to continue art. However, they are wrong. Art is not only for money.

     Jeanette Winterson also says that “Art is traded for large sums of money, but this is not art’s purpose, nor its nature. If money ceased to exist, art would continue.” (http://www.jeanettewinterson.com/)
Of course, the existence of the money cannot decide art. Art is a essential thing in the world even though some people deny this.

     Many people want to know the quality of art without understanding the art. However, we can experience and get many things by understanding meaning of art, and this is one of the roles of art. Art has showed our history, beauty and many things. In addition people can get great illumination throughout art. For these reasons, the existence of art is natural. People, who realize the true thing from art and feel, can argue about art. Art stimulates inner worlds continuously and this thing allows existing art.  Also, People can find energy and desire throughout art.

     Art demands lots of time. They do not reveal themselves easily. We need time to know art and understand art. This is our work and need time. Jeanette Winterson, she also mention about this. She says that

     “Art takes time.”, “Love takes time. It may be that if you have as much difficulty with museums as I do, that the only way into the strange life of pictures is to expose yourself to as much contemporary art as you can until you find something, anything, that you will go back and back to see again, and even make great sacrifices to buy.      All of matters are connected each other, and we can find invaluable things from the connection. Art is also the connection. If we invest time to art, we can find the true and real meaning of the time although that would give a hard time. In my opinion, art is the life and trace of beauty, and we can find truth throughout art although it demands huge efforts.

“A Field Guide to Getting Lost”

     Getting lost, it gives lots of the meaning to people and people take the meaning of getting lost with their own definition. The “field guide of to getting lost.” helps us to think about the meaning getting lost and our lives which absolutely, we cannot avoid. The author sates the meaning of the getting lost with her experiences and her thought. People encounter lots of getting lost during their lives, even though they don’t want that. Sometime, people give their own meaning to the getting lost. However, sometimes people deny the getting lost itself. Moreover, some people remove of their memory which they got lost.

     However, people cannot live their lives without getting lost. We can get many invaluable things from the getting lost, as the Author, Rebecca Solnit says in the book. I also can get hung invaluable things throughout getting lost which I will never know if I am not getting lost now. Although, we could have lots of anxiety and fear of getting lost, during the getting lost but we learn.  The way to how accept the getting lost is the journey of our lives and our document.  The people’s states of mind change our mind and soul.

     The author narrates the story with her notion and I got her meaning with my own subjective sensation. Even though this is my one of the getting lost and I misunderstood her intention, I could learn many things form the getting lost. Perhaps I have not known and I would never know. It gives me a opportunity think about my getting lost.

     Losing things is about the familiar falling away, getting lost is about the unfamiliar appearing. And it seems to be an art of recognizing the role of the unforeseen, of keeping your balance amid surprises, of collaborating with chance, of recognizing that there are some essential mysteries in the world and thereby a limit to calculation, to plan, to control.      The Blue of Distance has also variety of meaning to people. For me, blue is a color which is freezing and mystery. The color is unapproachable and mysterious color to author. The Blue of Distance is the existence which people cannot find and beautiful thing.  She also says lot of her experiences and art history for explain her intention. The Blue of Distance is always far away from us and mysterious to people.

     But in this world we actually live I, distance ceases to be distance and to be blue when we arrive in it. The far becomes the near, and they are not same place. (SolnitRebecca, 2005)

     Just as the mountains cease to be blue when you arrive among them and the blue instead tints the next beyond. Somewhere in this is the mystery of why tragedies are more beautiful than comedies and why we take a huge pleasure in the sadness of certain songs and stories.
